Pipe handling equipment

For the transportation and manipulation of the pipes in and around the factory, Selmers manufactures various pipe handling systems, each with their own specific advantages and goal.

Pipe Indexers
For the manipulation of heavy and/or large diameter pipes, indexer buggies for carrying one or two pipes are available. These indexers replace the conventional lower-in / kick-out arms and offer great flexibility in operation because the pipe can be placed accurately and on every position. Also for plants with a high level of automation, these indexers are very suitable as they can be fitted with smart sensors and direct communication with the central PLC.

Walking beams
The walking beam is ideal for repetitive transfer of pipe to a fixed position. It can transfer one pipe or a group of pipes to the next position on the pipe racks or to the next station. The advantage of this system is that it is straightforward and simple to operate, although the transfer distance is limited as compared to the pipe indexers.

Pipe push conveyors
This type of pipe transfer offers a relatively simple solution to move the pipes over support racks. The system consists of a set of pivot levers, equally spaced alongside the pipe support rack. The top of the levers is fitted with a roller and rises just above the rack surface. The levers are attached to a central boom that can move forward and backward. In the forward stroke the lever is mechanically blocked to push the pipe. In the reverse stroke the lever pivots down and is pulled underneath until it is back in its initial position. The advantage of the system is that it provides a low cost solution for operator free pipe handling.

Chain conveyors
Especially feasible for situations in which an intermittent transverse movement of the pipe in combination with accurate positioning is required. Chain conveyors are usually applied for small to medium sized pipes and have the advantage that relatively high speeds can be achieved.
